Gattaca essay

“Jerome was engineered with everything needed to get into gattaca...except for the desire to do so”. I think this quote means that he was made up with every single talent to go to gattaca and go to space, but he never really wanted to. This makes sense because throughout the whole movie(or since we met  him) he always had signs of depression. In the beginning it wasn’t that bad and we couldn’t really tell, but more and more throughout the story he started showing it little by little. Also, we learned that he didn’t jump out in front of the car because he was drunk, he said he was never more sober in his life. That just makes it obvious that he was going through depression with his life. This shows that he did not have the desire to do so and he just wanted to stay at home and get drunk all day.

Glass/Water as invisible obstacles Vincent must overcome. This makes sense because he had to overcome both of these obstacles in the movie and he did. The first one was when he was cleaning the glass. the custodian told him not to clean the glass to well so he couldn’t see the spaceships going off but he overcame that and at the end he actually made it in on. The other one was the water. He played the game of chicken with his brother and everytime he never won. But later on he played him again and he actually beat him. That shows that he overcame the obstacle of water.

Perfection vs happiness. I would not want my child to be perfect because i want him to be different from other people because then there is no purpose of having a kid because everyone is the same. It is devoided of happiness because they are all the same and they want to all do the sames thing so there is nothing fun about what they are doing.
